The beauty of Anna Maria Island is undeniable, yet fragile.
A special request from The Treasurer of SAM INC., “MEMBERS, We need your help. Click on this link to Contact Carol Soustek directly:
With so many attracted to her shores and her old Florida charm,
it is ever more important that we protect and preserve this
island paradise for many generations to come.
"I attended the City of Holmes Beach Commission Meeting on Nov. 22, and several members of the audience told the commissioners that the uncontrolled building has to stop.
Jean Peelan was great. She had to almost badger the other commissioners to hold a special meeting to gather builders, realtors, homeowners, and renters.
This special meeting, as of last night, will be on Dec. 13, at Holmes Beach city hall. Please contact all who are concerned about this issue, the building and horrible renters, and related issues. Have everyone come prepared to give their opinion on how to solve these issues. We know the problems, but how do we resolve them according to the laws we must abide by.
A moratorium on building was brought up by Mrs. Peelan, and the Mayor said that building was a year out already. This is something they will be checking on if it can be done legally and how to do it.
We need a great showing at this meeting and suggestions on how to correct a lot of this. Keep an eye on the date, as it could change from last night.
Hope all are well, Carol

Do you or any of your friends have pictures, documents or memories
of the Grassy Point Preserve area? You may have read or heard how S.A.M. Inc.,
is supporting the movement to restore Grassy Point to its original habitat and we are hampered by not having a good reference on what types of plants or trees were there originally. Our goal is to restore the habitat as nature made it.
Please search your photos from years back and any articles that you may have saved about that area. If you have any suggestions on this problem, please let us know. Thanks for your support Carol.”
